Feature & Follow #34

Feature and Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community.

Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

A: I thought I would hate Rapture by Lauren Kate, Hidden by P.C. Cast, and Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton. I ended up hating Rapture and Hidden. I only  read those books because I was already so far into both series that I thought it wouldn't hurt to read another. I actually ended up liking Wings of the Wicked but it isn't my favorite book.

Q: Tell us about the most emotional scene you've ever read in a book - and how did you react?

A: Probably the end of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I was sobbing so much at the end of it. The last couple Harry Potter books had me crying a lot too. Oh and the end of Clockwork Princess. It was just too much and so bittersweet.

Feature & Follow #32

Feature and Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community.

Q: What is a book you didn't like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn't popular?

A: Books I didn't like but practically everyone else loved: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, Crossed by Ally Condie, Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, and Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. There's probably a few other books that I'm forgetting.

A book I love but isn't popular is Pantomime by Laura Lam. I couldn't think of any others, besides this one and I'm not even sure if it counts.

Q: Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you've done, that as you gained more experience you were like -- oops?

A: I don't think I did anything terribly wrong in my first few months of blogging. I used to accept every single review request because it's so exciting when you first get requests. Now I only accept books that I'm genuinely interested in and if I have the time.

Q: We always talk about books that WE want. Let's turn it on its head. What books have you given other people lately?

A: I don't normally buy people books but I think the last book I bought for someone was a cooking book (not sure if that counts). I have so many books on my bookshelf so I let my friends borrow whatever book they want as long as they return it (once I didn't get a book back for almost a year). I think the last book someone borrowed from me was Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.

Q: Write a letter to your favorite character. Rant, rave or gush…just pretend like they are real and you just want to let them know a "few things". - Activity courtesy of author, Kelly Walker

A: Dear Cole,

I can't believe Nikki is so blind! I mean it was pretty obvious to me that you love her (much to my dismay). Nikki is so right about you being a hero in some's story. Why won't you believe her?

How dare you not tell Nikki what you were trying to do. You should have given her a choice! Did you ever think about what would happen when Nikki found out? I know it must be tough to accept, but you probably just screwed up any chance you ever had with her. I hate to say that, but I think it's true (even if I don't want it to be). I'm still hoping that you'll have a happy ending and somehow you'll turn out to be the hero.

Sincerely,
Erika

Q: Happy Mardi Gras! If they were throwing the HOTTEST books off of a Mardi Gras float -- what would you do to have them throw to you…?

A: Probably The Fault in Our Stars, The Infernal Devices, Delirium, Divergent, Cinder, and Pushing the Limits. Oh and Harry Potter! How could I forget?

Q: What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book?

A: It depends if I woke up at the end because if I woke up at the The Fault in Our Stars then I would be bawling my eyes out. If I woke up in the middle then I would probably go looking for Augustus and Hazel and then I'd start crying.

Q: What is the last book that kept you up late into the night just to finish it?

A: Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. The ending was just so intense that I couldn't put it down! I actually don't stay up late to finish things. I stay up reading but I don't normally finish books at night that often.

Q: Who is your favorite villain from a book?

A: How can I choose? I tend to love villains (sometimes more than the main character). The first villain that came to my mind was Bellatrix from Harry Potter but then I also thought of Sebastian from The Mortal Instruments. Both characters are twisted in their own way and both left a lasting impression on me.

Q: If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exists what would it be and why?

A: If supernatural beings existed I would want to be one. I would not want to be a human up against the supernatural. If I could be a supernatural being I would totally be a faerie (the Iron Fey kind) mostly because I would love to visit the Nevernever and I would love to be Winter Fey. I couldn't be a faerie then I would probably be a witch so that I could cast spells. If I couldn't be a supernatural creature then I wouldn't want them in the world. I would probably be too afraid to go anywhere knowing that I could be attacked by a vampire or zombie at any moment.

Q: What New Years Blogging or Writing resolution have you placed on yourself?

A: This year I want to use the library more and borrow from my friends instead of buying the books. I also want to try to gain 500 followers by the end of the year and try to post other bookish things besides reviews and memes. And redesign my blog because I feel like this one is really messy and cluttered so hopefully I'll get that done this year. I also want to finish the story I'm working on and maybe after I'm editing it I will share it on Goodreads but that's only if I think its good enough.

Q: What book do you think everyone should read? If you could gift the entire population with one book?

A: I couldn't choose just one so I'll have to say The Fault in Our Stars by John Green or White Cat by Holly Black. I loved both of those books. The Fault in Our Stars was so heart breaking but funny at the same time and I think that more people should know about how amazing White Cat is.

Q: What have you learned from book blogging that you didn't know before about the publishing industry?
A: So many things. I knew nothing about the publishing industry and I still don't know much about them. I never really knew that there were imprints and how books were marketed and things like that. I also learned that there's so many publishers out there! Way more than I thought there were.

Q: What is the last book that made you cry? Tell us about the scene...

A: I think Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson was the last book to make me cry. I cried so hard at the end of the book when Tiger Lily got Peter's letter. I also read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green a little before I read Tiger Lily and I was sobbing for a good 100 pages at the end of The Fault in Our Stars. That has to be the most I've ever cried over a book.

Q: Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could choose any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

A: I've never actually thought about this so this question is kinda hard for me. I wouldn't want to be most of my favorite characters because most of them go through things I would not want to go through. I was originally going to say Max from Maximum Ride because she has wings and having wings would be awesome, but I think I'd rather be Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments.

She's just so awesome and completely badass and she can kill demons in heels. How cool is that? She's also pretty funny and I would love to have Alec as a brother and have a brotherly bond with Jace. Isabelle has black hair, she's really tall, and I'm pretty sure she has blue or dark eyes. I don't really look like her or act much like her so I don't really have much in common with her.

Q: Activity! Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.

A: That's easy. Will Herondale is my book crush. He has blue eyes and black hair but that's not the best part about him. He's so broken inside and sweet when he wants to be that I can't help but love him. I just kind of googled Will Herondale because I couldn't think of anyone that looks like him and came up with this:

And this is the Will on the cover:
Anyone else out there a Will fan?

A: I don't think I have one blog I'm thankful for, but I'm definitely thankful for Cuddlebuggery Book Blog. I love their blog and their book reviews. The bloggers there are so funny. I think I'm most thankful for the blogging community though. Everyone is so nice and helpful!

Q: Books are turned into movies all the time! Turn it around. What movie would make a great book?

A: Oh man. That's almost impossible for me to answer. I never remember all the movies I've seen. All the movies I'm thinking of are already books. Well actually the first movie that came to my mind was Easy A, but I don't think that would be a "great" book. I'd read it, but I'm not sure how good it would actually be. This is such a hard question.

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

A: No I don't really mind books with similar ideas to other books as long as it has something original in it. Otherwise it would be like I'm reading the same book again. A few connections here and there are fine especially if I love the book that its being connected to.

But it seems like there's a ton of books (mostly paranormal) that have the same kind of story line. No I do not want to read more than one Twilight, one was more than enough for me. On the other hand I absolutely love retellings as long as there is some twist to the story.

So basically books that are sort of similar to other books can sometimes be ok, but when it is painfully obvious that it is really similar to another book then it isn't ok for me.
